SAN DIEGO (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV baseball team came up short to San Diego State 5-2 during game two of a three-game Mountain West series Saturday night at Tony Gwynn Stadium.
The Rebels dropped to 16-25 and 7-13 in the MW, while the Aztecs improved to 18-21 and 12-6 in league play.
REBEL OF THE GAME: Rylan Charles went 1-for-4 at the plate with his sixth home run of the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Back-to-back home runs by Charles and Jacob Sharp in the top of the first inning gave UNLV a two-run lead. San Diego State answered back in the bottom of the frame with an RBI double by Poncho Ruiz and the Aztecs plated two more runs in the bottom of the second with a pair of RBI singles from Irvin Weems and Cade Martinez to take the lead.
TURNING POINT: Caden Miller's home run in the third inning increased SDSU's lead, putting the Aztecs in control of the game.
Chris Canada (3-4) secured the win for SDSU after allowing two runs on four hits with eight strikeouts in six innings of work.
Kelena Sauer (S,10) secured the save for the Aztecs after throwing a perfect ninth inning.
Noah Beal (1-4) was saddled with the loss for UNLV after throwing six innings and allowing five runs on seven hits with six strikeouts.
UP NEXT: UNLV will conclude the series Sunday afternoon at Tony Gwynn Stadium with first pitch slated for 1 p.m.
