FRESNO, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV baseball team fell to Fresno State 11-4 during the opening of a three-game Mountain West series Friday evening at Bob Bennett Stadium.
The Rebels dropped to 19-27 and 10-15 in the MW, while the Bulldogs improved to 25-24 and 14-14 in league play.
REBELS OF THE GAME: Alex Pimentel and Jacob Sharp both hit solo home runs.
HOW IT HAPPENED: The Bulldogs jumped out to an early lead after a solo home run from Nikoh Mitchell in the home half of the first inning. UNLV answered back in the top of the second with a two-run single from Jason Sharman to take the lead. However, Fresno State plated four runs on seven hits in the bottom of the frame, including a solo home run from Tyler Davis and a two-run homer from Mitchell. The Bulldogs increased their advantage to 9-2 going into the top of the fifth, but the Rebels answered with Pimentel's solo home run. Fresno State plated another run in the bottom of the frame with a sacrifice fly from Murf Gray. UNLV scored another run in the top of the seventh with Sharp's homer, only for the Bulldogs to post another run on an RBI single from Tommy Hopfe to close the scoring.
Ixan Henderson (4-3) secured the win for Fresno State after throwing 7.2 innings and allowing four runs on eight hits with 10 strikeouts.
Noah Beal (1-5) was saddled with the loss for UNLV after allowing five runs on nine hits in 1.2 innings of work.

- Sharp is currently on a six-game hitting streak.
