FRESNO, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV baseball team lost 10-1 to Fresno State during the second game of a three-game Mountain West series Saturday afternoon at Bob Bennett Stadium.
The Rebels dropped to 19-28 and 10-16 in the MW, while the Bulldogs improved to 26-24 and 15-14 in league play.
HOW IT HAPPENED: The Bulldogs took the lead early in the game with a solo home run from Grady Morgan in the home half of the first inning. Fresno State increased its advantage to 6-0 after plating five runs on four hits, including an RBI double from Travis Welker and a two-run home run from Morgan, in the bottom of the second. The Rebels scored in the top of the fourth with a sacrifice fly from Kade Higgins, only for the Bulldogs to answer back with back-to-back RBI singles in the bottom of the frame. Fresno State plated two more runs in the bottom of the seventh with back-to-back solo home runs by Bobby Blandford and Ben Newton, respectively, to close the scoring.
Roman Angelo (5-5) secured the win for Fresno State after throwing a complete game and allowing only one run on two hits with 10 strikeouts.
Zack Simon (3-2) was saddled with the loss for UNLV after allowing six runs on five hits in two innings of work.
UP NEXT: UNLV will conclude the series Sunday at Bob Bennett Stadium with first pitch slated for 1:05 p.m.
