LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV junior catcher Jacob Sharp was tabbed to the All-Mountain West First Team, the league announced Thursday.  

Sharp, a transfer from Fullerton College, paced the Hustlin' Rebels offensively this season in nearly every offensive category. The Whittier, California, native started in all 46 games played with 42 starts behind the plate and four as the designated hitter. He posted a team-high .335 batting average with 63 hits, 48 RBI and 48 runs. More impressively, almost half of his hit haul went for extra bases, with 13 doubles, 12 home runs and one triple, and resulted in 114 total bases and a .606% slugging percentage. He also was tops in multiple-hit games (14) and multiple-RBI games (11), including a career-high seven RBI against Air Force on May 19. 

Additionally, his 16 walks helped him register a .395 on-base percentage and he ended the season with an 11-game hitting streak. Defensively, Sharp recorded a .991 fielding percentage with three errors in a total of 328 chances (297 putouts and 28 assists).

"Jacob had an incredible year, we knew he was good but he went way beyond our expectations," said head coach Stan Stolte. "Just a gamer who on most days was the best player on the field. Really going to miss him if he takes that pro opportunity, which he deserves."

Sharp, who is the fourth Rebel catcher and first since 2020 named All-MW, tied for second in the conference in sacrifice flies (5), tied for third in home runs (12), tied for fourth in runs scored (48) and finished fifth in batting average (.335).
