LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV senior outside hitter Isabel Martin had a match-high 14 kills along with six digs to lead the UNLV volleyball team (5-4) to a dominant 3-0 sweep over Southern Utah in its home opener Tuesday night at Cox Pavilion.
The Rebels won by scores of 25-16, 25-21 and 25-18, out-hitting the Thunderbirds (3-5) for the match .396 to .087.
Senior middle blocker Jordyn Freeman added nine kills for the Rebels with no hitting errors for an impressive .692 hitting percentage. Senior setter Arien Fafard recorded a match-high 20 assists, while freshman libero Caleigh King had a match-high-tying nine digs.
SUU was led by Madison Walker's seven kills, Teniyah Leuluai's 14 assists and Calli Johnson's nine digs.
As a team, UNLV also led in kills (47-26), assists (44-24), digs (38-33) and total blocks (8-4). There were only nine ties and five lead changes throughout the match.
It marked the 14th all-time meeting between the two schools in volleyball with UNLV now leading the series 12-2.

UNLV, which has been named the preseason league favorite along with Utah State in a poll voted on by the conference's head coaches, has added five new players to their 2023 roster.

2022 Mountain West Player of the Year Isabel Martin is back and was also named the 2023 Preseason MW Player of the Year.

Also returning are last season's all-conference honorees: senior outside hitter Gabrielle Arretche-Ramos and senior middle blocker Jordyn Freeman.

Martin also earned all-region honors last season and was named an honorable mention All-American.
- UNLV went 26-5 overall in 2022, including a 17-1 record in Mountain West play, and made another NCAA Tournament appearance.
NEXT FOR THE REBELS: UNLV will remain at home the rest of this week to host its own tournament, Thursday-Saturday, Sept. 14-16. The Rebels will face Coppin State on Thursday, Sept. 14 at 6:30 p.m., Portland on Friday, Sept. 15 at 6:30 p.m. and Lamar on Saturday, Sept. 16 at 1 p.m. Neutral matches between the other teams will take place each day prior to UNLV's matches.
