LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – Trailing 18-13 in the fourth set, the UNLV volleyball team (7-4) closed the match on a 12-4 run to take a 3-1 victory over Portland Friday night at the UNLV Tournament at Cox Pavilion.
The Rebels earned the win by scores of 25-19, 20-25, 25-18 and 25-21.
The Rebels, behind senior Gabrielle Arretche-Ramos' 13 kills and senior Isabel Martin's 11, recorded a season-high hitting percentage of .437. Arretche-Ramos had only two hitting errors for a percentage of .611, and junior Dakota Quinlan hit .556 (6 kills, 1 error). Senior Arien Fafard had a match-high 23 assists and freshman Caleigh King led the team with eight digs.
Portland (5-6) was led by Maui Robins' 16 kills. She hit .500 with only four errors. Maddie Corpe and Elena Bullemer each had 15 assists for the Pilots, who hit .264 as a team, while Corpe also led her team in digs with six.
For the match, UNLV led in kills (56-46) and assists (50-37). There were only seven ties and two lead changes throughout the entire match.
It marked just the fifth all-time meeting between the two schools. UNLV now leads the series 4-1.
NEXT FOR THE REBELS: UNLV will conclude play in its own tournament on Saturday, Sept. 16 against Lamar at 1 p.m. Coppin State vs. Portland will precede it at 10 a.m. Both matches will be held at Cox Pavilion.

The Rebels, who are led by first-year head coach Malia Shoji, returned 11 letterwinners from last season's Mountain West regular-season championship team.

UNLV, which has been named the preseason league favorite along with Utah State in a poll voted on by the conference's head coaches, has added five new players to their 2023 roster.

2022 Mountain West Player of the Year Isabel Martin is back and was also named the 2023 Preseason MW Player of the Year.

Also returning are last season's all-conference honorees: senior outside hitter Gabrielle Arretche-Ramos and senior middle blocker Jordyn Freeman.

Martin also earned all-region honors last season and was named an honorable mention All-American.
- UNLV went 26-5 overall in 2022, including a 17-1 record in Mountain West play, and made another NCAA Tournament appearance.
