LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) — The UNLV men's soccer team suffered its first defeat at home this season on Sunday night as they fell 1-0 to Cal State Bakersfield at Peter Johann Memorial Field.
In the 62nd minute, CSUB's top scorer, Bilal Mihoubi, notched his third goal of the season. Mihoubi redirected Joey Velasquez's cross through the legs of UNLV defender
Santi Hanus to secure the only goal of the match.
CSUB (4-1-2) extended its winning streak to four games while UNLV (1-4-2) experienced only its second shutout of the season.
UNLV had an opportunity to capitalize on a player advantage when CSUB's Connor Mautino received a second yellow card with 12 minutes remaining. However, the Rebels managed just one more shot, a 22-yard attempt by
Michael Vogel, which was ultimately blocked.
UNLV travels to Tulsa on Saturday, Sept. 23, before beginning Western Athletic Conference play at UT Rio Grande Valley on Thursday, Sept. 28.
