Rebels Back In Win Column With 3-0 Shutout Vs. Wyoming

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV women's soccer made its way back into the win column with a 3-0 shutout victory over Wyoming in Sunday's Mountain West matchup at Peter Johann Memorial Field.

The victory over the Cowgirls (4-6-6, 2-3-3) lifts the Rebels (7-7-2) to 5-2-1 against MW opponents this season. Additionally, the Scarlet & Gray continued to show its ability to bounce back from defeat in league contests, improving to 2-0 following a loss.

Taking command of the match from the onset, UNLV first found the back of the net in the ninth minute and again with insurance goals in the 16th minute and 60th minute. Sophomore Cassie Vilanueva opened the scoring after winning a loose ball in the box, junior Sarah Martinez made it 2-0 as she sailed the ball from the corner of the 18 and Ramirez finished the scoring off a corner assist by freshman Tori Martinez.

Behind the Rebels' scoring, Ramirez increased her goal total on the year to five, Villanueva had her third score of the season and Martinez came away with her second.

Helping UNLV capture its second shutout in the last three games, junior Hanne Breur made four saves as the Scarlet & Gray backline went unscathed after facing 12 Wyoming shots.

QUOTABLE: "I feel so happy for this group of girls because they got the three points and the shutout with it. I was pleased to get a goal off a corner because we've been trying to improve in that area. Everyone was a part of this one and they just played so well today. They controlled the ball well, had great ideas and played very smart."
-UNLV Head Coach Jenny Williams

UP NEXT: The Rebels will take on Utah State in a 7 p.m. Senior Night tilt Thursday at Peter Johann Memorial Field. The squad's five seniors will be honored prior to kickoff.

NOTES:
  • This marked the Rebels' third shutout victory during conference play and the second by a 3-0 final score. Previously, UNLV topped New Mexico, 3-0, in their Mountain West opener in Albuquerque.
  • It was also the fifth occasion the Scarlet & Gray attack scored at least three goals in a game this year, improving to 5-0 in those contests.
  • With three games still remaining in the regular season, the Rebels have surpassed their total scoring output (22 goals) from last season with 24 goals in 2024.
