Rebels Fall In Offensive Showdown

LOGAN, Utah (UNLVrebels.com) – The UNLV volleyball team kicked off its final weekend away from Cox Pavilion with a matchup against Utah State on Thursday night. The Rebels faced off against the Aggies on Kirby Court at the Waynes Estes Center for a five-set thriller.
 
The Scarlet & Gray (12-14, 5-10 MW) fell to Utah State (13-12, 10-4) in the five-set duel, the two teams battling back and forth on a 26-24, 20-25, 23-25, 26-24 and 15-8 final score. Both teams matched their offense punch-for-punch, the Rebels hitting .301 and the Aggies pushing a .316 hitting percentage.
 
The Rebels totaled 62 kills in the match, Chloe Thomas and Basia Latos each earning 16 kills to top the UNLV lineup. The freshman followed up her Mountain West Freshman of the Week honor with a high hitting percentage of .519 in the match, her first-year teammate Jada Ingram reaching a .571 attack with nine kills in 14 total attacks. Gabrielle Arretche-Ramos was the third member to reach double-digit kills in the match, finding 12 on her attempts.
 
The defense tallied 22 block assists and one solo block in the match, the seventh time this season the Rebels earned 20 or more assists in a single contest. Dakota Quinlan found the top spot in blocks, earning the program's lone solo block and a team-high six assists in the contest. Ingram totaled five block assists in the match as well, Thomas, Latos and Arretche-Ramos each finding a trio of block assists.
 
Arien Fafard led the serve for the Rebels, the graduate student setter picking up three service aces out of the team's eight in the match. Olivia Mikkelsen would pace the offense with 29 set assists, a new career-high since transferring to UNLV last season. Alondra Alarcon would be the only Rebel to reach double-digits in digs for the contest, marking 10 on the day with Caleigh King behind her at nine.
