Lady Rebels Dominate Over Stonehill

Macy Spencer led UNLV with a career-high 20 points

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV women's basketball team is back in the win column after a dominant 93-57 victory over Stonehill on Friday night at Cox Pavilion.
 
Macy Spencer came off the bench for the Lady Rebels (3-1) and scored a career-high 20 points by shooting 6-for-13 from the field, 4-for-8 from the arc and was 4-for-5 at the free throw line. Aaliyah Alexander was the second-leading scorer for the Lady Rebels, collecting 13 points by shooting 5-for-8 from the field and 3-for-6 from the three. Alyssa Brown led in rebounds with nine, while Kiara Jackson dished out a team-high seven assists.
 
The Skyhawks (2-2) were led by Sharn Hayward with 20 points, while Megan Sias and Brooke Paquette each had nine points.
 
SECOND QUARTER PUSH: With a six-point lead heading into the second quarter, the Lady Rebels were determined to get things going. Straight out the gate, Alexander sank a three-pointer to make it 19-10. Stonehill closed the gap to seven with 6:20 left to play before the half, until UNLV scored 18 straight points to go up by 25 at 42-17 and took control and never looked back.
 
QUOTABLE: "I'm really proud of our group and the effort we put forth tonight. To come out and dictate the tempo of the game on both sides of the ball. We were able to get everyone into the game, and have everyone see success, that's huge for our development as a team, as we continue to build on as the season goes on." said head coach Lindy La Rocque.
 
NOTES:
  • Spencer also had a career-high in rebounds with four. Additionally, Spencer scored 11 of her 20 points in just the third quarter.
  • Teagan Colvin also had a career-high night with nine points, two steals and one assist.
  • Meadow Roland blocked a career-high three shots.
  • UNLV sank a season-high 13 three-pointers, which is only three shy of tying the program record.
  • The Lady Rebels scored 30 of its 93 points in just the second quarter.
  • UNLV's bench was hot, as they scored 52 points compared to Stonehill's 21 bench points.
  • Another party in the paint, as the Lady Rebels scored 32 points compared to the Skyhawks' 16.
  • UNLV forced 22 Stonehill turnovers and scored 22 points off them.
  • The Lady Rebels only missed one free throw and shot 16-for-17.
