Volleyball Caps Regular Season With Senior-Day Victory

LAS VEGAS (UNLVrebels.com) – The UNLV volleyball team capped the 2024 season on Saturday afternoon, hosting the New Mexico Lobos in Cox Pavilion. The Rebels dueled the regular-season finale honoring nine seniors on the roster; consisting of Jordyn Freeman, Olivia Mikkelsen, Alyssa Muraoka, Kennedy Peery, Dakota Quinlan, Arien Fafard, Chloe Thomas, Gabrielle Arretche-Ramos and Livvy Setla

The Scarlet & Gray (15-14, 8-10 MW) fought back-and-forth with the Lobos (13-15, 6-12) during the match, the final line of the contest being 14-25, 25-19, 27-25, 17-25 and 15-13. After a slow start, the Rebels punched back against New Mexico with a .349 attacking percentage in the second set alone, following it with a .318 rate in the third set en route to a win. UNLV topped New Mexico in four different statistical categories as a team, topping the Lobos in points, aces, set assists and digs.

Bibs Mikkelsen capped her Rebel career with her best statistical performance in the Scarlet & Gray, picking up her first 20-20 double-double since joining the Rebels. The Nine Mile Falls, Wash., native totaled a career-high and team-high 21 digs and a team-high 24 set assists. She wouldn't be the only Rebel senior to collect a double-double on the day, Arien Fafard collecting one of her own with 17 digs and 20 set assists in the match. Another Rebel totaled double-digit digs in the match, sophomore libero Caleigh King tallying 14 for the Rebels.

The UNLV attacking team was led by Chloe Thomas, the senior right-side hitter totaling 16 kills with a .314 attacking percentage. Two other Rebels notched double-figure kills in the contest, freshman Basia Latos finding 14 and fifth-year senior Gabrielle Arretche-Ramos with 13. Freshman Jada Ingram topped the offense with the highest attacking percentage, her fifth-consecutive match of hitting .400 or better with a .412 mark on Saturday along with eight kills.

The frontline tallied 24 total block assists on the defensive side, Ingram leading the team with seven in the match. Thomas stood right behind her with six of her own, Quinlan following close behind with five. Saturday's match tabbed the ninth time this season the Rebels totaled 20 or more block assists in a single match.

UNLV also combined for 10 service aces on the Lobos, the fifth time this season the program has joined together for double-digits. A pair of Rebels tied the top spot in the lineup with a trio in the match, Quinlan and Arretche-Ramos being the pair. Four other student-athletes claimed an ace of their own, consisting of Fafard, Mikkelsen, King and Livvy Setla.
