Runnin' Rebels Dominate In 72-43 Win At Air Force

Rob Whaley Jr. had 15 points and seven rebounds for UNLV, which has won six of its last seven games.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's basketball team dominated Air Force in a 72-43 road win Wednesday night at Clune Arena. The blow-out victory avenged the Runnin' Rebels' loss from earlier this season to the Falcons and gave them their sixth win in their last seven games.

UNLV (15-10, 8-5) was led by Rob Whaley Jr.'s 15 points and seven rebounds, while Brooklyn Hicks scored a career-high 12 points and Keylan Boone added 11 points. Kalib Boone led the Runnin' Rebels in rebounds and blocks with eight and three, respectively.

Ethan Taylor was the only player in double-figure scoring for Air Force (8-17, 1-12) with 17 points. Kellan Boylan had a team-high five rebounds.

STATS OF THE GAME: UNLV outscored Air Force in points in the paint 40-22 and out-rebounded the Falcons 44-19.

SHOOTING PERCENTAGES: UNLV shot 50% in each half, 15 of 30 over the first 20 minutes and 11 of 22 in the second half. The Runnin' Rebels held Air Force to 32.0% from the field (8 of 25) in the second half and 34.6% (18 of 52) for the game. AFA managed just 17.9% on 3-pointers (5 of 28), including 1 of 10 in the second half.

OTHER NOTES:
- UNLV led 37-24 at halftime and outscored Air Force 35-19 over the game's final 20 minutes.
- UNLV has won nine of the last 11 meetings against Air Force and broke a two-game losing streak at Clune Arena. 
- Whaley Jr. made 6 of 7 from the field, Hicks was 3 of 5 and Boone was 5 of 7. The trio shot 74%. 
- UNLV went to the free throw line 18 more times than Air Force and outscored the Falcons by 14 from the charity stripe.
- UNLV grabbed 16 offensive rebounds and led in second-chance points 15-2.
- UNLV's bench outscored Air Force's 25-7.
- UNLV continues to be without Jalen Hill, who is out of the rest of the season (ACL).
- UNLV has made at least one 3-pointer in a NCAA-record 1,218 straight games.

NEXT FOR THE RUNNIN' REBELS: UNLV will return home to the Thomas & Mack Center to host No. 22 Colorado State on Saturday, Feb. 24 at 5 p.m.
