LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV softball team came up short 4-2 versus Tulsa in the Rebel Classic finale on Sunday at Eller Media Stadium.
Â
The Rebels (7-6) fell behind in the top of the first inning 2-0 to the Golden Hurricane (9-5). Tulsa then added a run in the top of the second inning, 3-0, and held UNLV scoreless in the bottom of both the first two innings. In the top of the third, Tulsa had a runner on first with two outs, but were sat down on a pop up to second base. In the bottom of the third inning,
Ellie Zellien led off with a double to center field.
Hailey Schmaltz put down a bunt to move Zellien into scoring position.
Ariana Martinez then roped a single to left field that brought Zellien across the plate to make it 3-1.
Maddie Schmidt also put down a bunt which put Martinez on second. After the first pitch Tulsa threw, the next pitch was wild and Martinez was heads up on the base path and scored from second to get within one, 3-2.
Â
The fourth inning was scoreless on both sides and the Golden Hurricanes then brought a run across the plate in the top of the fifth to make it 4-2. After a scoreless inning and a half, the Rebels were back up to the plate in hopes to get something going. With two outs,
