RENO, Nev. (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's basketball team's five-game win streak ended Saturday night in a 75-65 loss to UNR in the regular-season finale at Lawlor Events Center.
Keylan Boone scored 24 points on 9 of 16 shooting, including 6 of 12 on 3-pointers, and
Dedan Thomas Jr. had 23 points for the Runnin' Rebels (19-11, 12-6), who finished Mountain West play with their best record since 2019-20.
Rob Whaley Jr. contributed six points and a team-high eight rebounds.
UNR (26-6, 13-5) won its seventh straight game as Jarod Lucas scored a game-high 26 points on 8 of 16 from the field, including 4 of 9 on 3-pointers. Kenan Blackshear added 16 points and nine assists, while Nick Davidson had a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds.
STATS OF THE GAME: UNR shot 52.2% from the field (24 of 46) and had 16 second-chance points.
GAME OF RUNS: UNLV used a 14-2 run over a four-minute span in the second half, which included three
Keylan Boone 3-pointers, to take a 48-47 lead with 11:58 to go. UNR responded with a 17-4 run over the next six minutes and led by 12 at 66-54 with five minutes left.
OTHER NOTES:
- UNLV will enter the conference tournament having won 10 of its last 12 games.
- UNR took a 15-3 lead five minutes into the game and held a 39-31 advantage at halftime.
- UNR scored nine more points than UNLV did at the free throw line (21-12) in nine more attempts (23-14).
- UNR held a 33-28 rebounding advantage with UNLV securing 12 on the offensive glass to the Wolf Pack's eight.
- UNR recorded an assist on 18 of its 24 made field goals.
- UNR's bench outscored UNLV's 13-4.
- UNLV shot 42.9% (12 of 28) in the first half but just 35.5% (11 of 31) in the second, finishing the game at 39.0% (23 of 59).
- UNR made 13 of 24 shots in the first half (54.2%) and 11 of 22 (50.0%) over the game's final 20 minutes.
- UNR closed the contest by making 13 of 14 free throws.
