Rebels Claim Weekend Series With A Plethora Of Free Bags

LAS VEGAS (UNLVrebels.com) – After taking down UNR (16-20, 10-10 MW) on Saturday night, the UNLV baseball team (21-18, 9-12) aimed to take the second installment of the Silver State Series this season on Sunday, presented by America First Credit Union. The Rebels would tally 12 walks in the contest alongside eight hits, snagging the victory with a final score of 10-7.

The Scarlet & Gray only recorded 30 official at bats in the contest, picking up 12 walks and four hit batters for a total of 42 batters stepping to the plate on the day. Chase Ditmar would own the most free trips to first base out of any Rebel batter, walking three times and getting hit once in the game. Despite his only one official at-bat, he'd tag two RBI in the contest after two walks came way while the bases were loaded. Kade Higgins and Parker Schmidt both found three trips to first base each as well in the contest.

UNLV did find some runs via hits in the Sunday showdown, Paul Myro IV unloading three runs on the Wolf Pack with a double through right field. His hit in the bottom of the first inning would score Chase Gallegos, Santino Panaro and Ditmar on the play, Panaro just prior claiming two RBI of his own with a single to center field that ran Higgins and Schmidt across home plate. After the first inning, the Rebels would hold a 6-2 lead.

The Hustlin' Rebels utilized five different arms on the mound, Carson Lane starting for the sixth time this season and tossing four strikeouts in his 2.1 innings of work. Joey Acosta stepped into the game in the top of the third inning to shut out UNR for three innings total, fanning five batters and getting credited the win on the day. Dylan Rogers would close the contest and seal the Rebel victory by tossing the final two innings of action, picking up his first multi-inning shutout of the season and his first collegiate save.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Myro IV's three-RBI hit in the first inning marked the second time this season the shortstop has had at least three in one game.
- UNLV's 16 free trips to first base on Sunday marked the most the team has had in a single game this season, beating their previous high of 14 against Utah Tech back in February.
- The Rebels extend their run-streak to the last 193-consecutive games, avoiding being shut out since the 2021 season.
- The win on Sunday ties the Silver State Series mark for baseball this season, both teams earning three wins in 2024.

UP NEXT
