FRESNO, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV softball team fell 6-1 in the rubber match against Fresno State on Sunday at Margie Wright Diamond. The Rebels dropped the series 2-1 to the Bulldogs.
The Rebels (27-15, 10-6 MW) went ahead, 1-0, in the top of the first inning over the Bulldogs (30-15, 10-6 MW). Fresno State then countered in the bottom of the second with two runs to take the lead and stayed in control. UNLV was held scoreless for six straight innings.
THE TURNING POINT: As the Rebels got things going in the first inning, scoring a run on an RBI single to center by
Janyssa Martin, the Bulldogs answered right back in the bottom of the second. Fresno State scored two runs to take a 2-1 lead after the first two innings of play. The Bulldogs then went on to score two more in the third, and a run in both the fourth and fifth innings to head into the sixth with a 6-1 lead. The Rebels had a runner on in the top of the sixth, but could not capitalize to bring her around.
