UNLV Unable To Hold On Against Spartans

SAN JOSE, Calif.  (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV Softball team fell 7-2 to San Jose State in game two of the three-game Mountain West series on Saturday at Spartan Softball Complex.
 
The Rebels (28-16, 11-7 MW) were ahead 1-0 after the second inning over the Spartans (15-26, 4-13 MW), but San Jose State tied it 1-all in the bottom half of the fourth. UNLV grabbed the lead back in the top of the fifth inning 2-1, but SJSU scored six runs in the bottom of the fifth to control the game and never let up.
 
THE TURNING POINT: UNLV took the lead in the top of the fifth inning and had the momentum until San Jose State's bats started to come alive in the bottom of the fifth. The Spartans scored six runs on six hits to take a 7-2 in the fifth and shut down the Rebels in the final two innings to force the rubber match in the series finale.
 
OTHER NOTES:
  • Skyler Shaw had a career day at the plate tying her career-high in hits going 3-for-3.
  • Alyssa Trejo was 2-for-3 at the plate including a RBI and a double.
  • Marisa Bowman was 1-for-2 on the day and had a RBI.
  • This is the fourth MW series for the Rebels to be decided by the series finale.
