Hustlin’ Rebels Cap Weekend At San Jose State

SAN JOSE, Calif. (UNLVrebels.com) – After both of the previous two games in the weekend being decided by just one run, the UNLV baseball team (23-20, 10-14 MW) matched up against San Jose State (18-14, 13-11) for the final game of the series on Sunday afternoon. The Rebels struggled to push runners across the plate in the contest, falling on a final score of 5-1.

Austin Kryszczuk was the only Rebel to round the bases in the game on Sunday, hitting a two-out home run in the opening inning of action to claim an early lead against the Spartans. The graduate student's solo shot would stretch over the left-field fence, also picking up a hit in the top of the fourth inning for the Scarlet & Gray with a single to left field.

UNLV featured two other batters in the middle of the order with more than one hit in the game, Parker Schmidt and Kade Higgins each recording a pair in the team's efforts. Shortly after Kryszczuk's previously-mentioned hit, Higgins would advance him to third base on his first hit of the day with a single and a rough-hit ball to the first baseman. Schmidt would push Brendan O'Sullivan with a single through the right side in the top of the sixth for his first hit of the game, him and Higgins hitting back-to-back singles in right field for their second hits of the contest to once again put a runner in scoring position.

Despite not picking up the win, Carson Lane would showcase strong innings on the mound as the Rebels' start that only hiccupped in one at bat. Prior to his departure in the game, the freshman would only allow three hits in 16 batters faced and 68 pitches in the contest. He pitched four innings overall in the game.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Kryszczuk's bat ran hot over the course of the three-game series, picking up six RBI in the set along with three home runs.
- Matthew Maloney closed the final innings for UNLV and tied his season high in strikeouts, fanning four batters in the final 2.1 innings.
- UNLV's streak of 197-consecutive games of scoring at least one run in a contest continues, a streak stretching back to the 2021 season.
