FRESNO, Calif. (UNLVrebels.com) – The UNLV baseball team (25-23, 11-17 MW) kicked off their final Mountain West series of the 2024 regular season on Friday night, traveling out to Fresno State (28-21, 15-10). The Rebels would place several runners in scoring position all throughout the night, but couldn't bring them home as they fell on a 5-1 final score.
Kade Higgins produced the only RBI for the Scarlet & Gray on Friday night, posting a productive night at the plate with a perfect 2-2 batting. His score would come in the top of the fifth inning, hitting a one-out single to left field after
Austin Kryszczuk slapped a double in the same side of the outfield. Higgins would also tally a walk on the nice for a free trip to first.
The Rebels featured three other multi-hit batters in their lineup during the contest,
Parker Schmidt opening the game with a single in the first inning and later another in the top of the seventh.
Alex Pimentel found two in his three official at bats that included a double to open the top of the sixth inning, shooting a ball down the left-field line.
Chase Ditmar was the final Rebel with multiple hits in the contest, hitting a ground-rule double in the fourth inning and leading off a ninth-inning rally with a single to right field.
Joey Acosta and
Albert Roblez would combo for holding the Bulldogs in the final two innings on the mound, Acosta pitching 1.1 innings and facing only seven batters during the stretch, Roblez would close the game in the bottom of the eighth inning and pick up two key strikeouts while Fresno State was in scoring position to end the inning.
