Women's Soccer's Match Vs. Cal State Fullerton Ends In 2-2 Draw

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – In a tumultuous finish, the UNLV women's soccer team's Sunday afternoon match vs. Cal State Fullerton ended in a 2-2 draw as it wrapped up its non-conference home slate at Peter Johann Memorial Field.

The Rebels (2-3-1) control the contests against the Titans (2-5-1) for over 72 minutes with goals by junior Mallie Ramirez in the 26th minute and sophomore Cassie Villanueva in the 62nd minute. Ramirez's second score of the season followed a nice relay from sophomore Trinity Buchanan and senior Mimi Mendoza, while Villanueva tracked down a deep ball from redshirt freshman Amaya Haley for her first of the year.

After Fullerton evened the score in the 73rd minute, a late ruling on a close play that appeared to be a UNLV goal kick ultimately awarded the Titans a corner kick on the ensuing 88th-minute equalizer.

Junior goalkeeper Hanne Breur, who played the full 90 minutes in net for the third straight match, and the Scarlet & Gray backline helped keep the Rebels competitive throughout the match. Breur recorded a season-high seven saves and received assistance on another CSUF shot on target that was saved at the last moment by junior captain Gianna Newby.

UP NEXT: UNLV will embark on a four-game road trip beginning with a match at Eastern Washington at 4 p.m. PT on Thursday. The Rebels' match against the Eagles will be broadcast on ESPN+.

NOTES:
  • The Rebels' aggression on the attack has led to double-digit shots for UNLV in all six of its matches this season, including 15 or more in three straight contests.
  • Ramirez's goal gave the Scarlet & Gray three players with at least two goals during the 2024 campaign.
  • In similar fashion, the double assist by Buchanan and Mendoza on Ramirez's score landed them among a trio of Rebels with multiple assists on the year as they each recorded their second helper.
  • UNLV's three assists against the Titans were a season high as a team.
