COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (UNLVrebels.com) – The UNLV volleyball team opened up its Mountain West schedule this weekend, taking on the second of two games over the last three days on Saturday afternoon. The Rebels took on Air Force out east in Colorado, looking to extend their strong start to the conference schedule after a win against New Mexico on Thursday.
The Falcons (2-11, 1-1 MW) overcame the Scarlet & Gray (8-5, 1-1 MW) in the match, UNLV falling on a 3-1 final score. The scoreline ran as 25-23,20-25, 25-21 and 25-21, the Rebels posting a .244 attacking percentage in comparison to Air Force's .318 mark.
Chloe Thomas led the Rebel hitters with 13 kills in the match, notching her third time in the last four matches with double-digit kills. The senior would also top the lineup in hitting percentage (minimum 20 kills) at a .417 rate.
Alondra Alarcon and
Basia Latos each contributed 10 kills alongside their senior teammate,
Gabrielle Arretche-Ramos totaling nine.
Rheanna Deen-Jackson was the most efficient attacker in the lineup, posting an even .500 rate with eight kills and 14 total attacks.
Sophomore
Caleigh King held a majority of the Rebels' 45 digs with 14 of her own, her seventh match with double-digits in a single game.
Olivia Mikkelsen brought on eight digs of her own for her sixth match of the year with eight or more. The defense's front line totaled eight blocks (one solo, 14 assists), Deen-Jackson leading the charge with five block assists to her credit in the match. Thomas registered four block assists to her name,
Jada Ingram taking the team's lone solo block along with her two assists.
Arien Fafard collected a season-high in assists during the Saturday match with 28, picking up a seven set assists per set mark. Mikkelsen found 16 assists for the Rebel offense, King tallying five for her sixth match of the season with five or more as the Rebels' libero with five on Saturday.
