LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV women's basketball head coach
Lindy La Rocque has signed a new five-year contract, Interim President Chris Heavey and Director of Athletics
Erick Harper announced Tuesday.
La Rocque, who is a three-time Mountain West Coach of the Year, has agreed to terms through the 2029-30 season.
"Coach La Roque is a proven winner and transcendent leader who has developed the UNLV Lady Rebels into an elite program nationally and a fan favorite here in Las Vegas, while empowering countless student-athletes to reach their potential on and off the court," Heavey said. "Coach La Roque is one of UNLV's most veteran and winningest coaches, and I am thrilled to continue our partnership with her as she continues to build on the tangible momentum of our women's basketball program."
"We are incredibly fortunate to have Coach La Rocque leading our women's basketball program," Harper said. "In just five seasons, she has transformed the Lady Rebels into a proven winner, earning three Mountain West Coach of the Year honors and guiding us to four straight regular-season conference championships, three Mountain West tournament titles, and four postseason appearances. Extending her contract through 2029-30 reinforces our commitment to sustained excellence, continued student-athlete development, and the vibrant Las Vegas community that supports our women's basketball program."
The Las Vegas native became the first head coach in Mountain West and UNLV history to be named the league's Coach of the Year three times in the first five seasons leading a program. She has guided the Lady Rebels to four consecutive regular season conference championships, three straight MW tournament championship titles and four postseason appearances.
"This extension is a reflection of the standard set by our players, coaches and all of the support staff that touch our program on a daily basis," said La Rocque. "I'm proud of the championships we've brought to UNLV and eager to go for many more! We're appreciative of the opportunity to continue to push this program to the highest level of women's college basketball."
Under La Rocque, the Lady Rebels have achieved greatness, including two consecutive seasons with 30+ wins, being one of only two NCAA DI women's basketball programs to go back-to-back with 30 wins from 2022-24. The team earned its highest ranking with La Rocque at the helm in both the Associated Press and USA Today Coaches Polls, coming in at No. 20 and No. 19, respectively, during the 2023-24 season.
Additionally under the guidance of La Rocque, the Lady Rebels have earned two Mountain West Player of the Year selections with
Desi-Rae Young, three Mountain West Sixth Player of the Year awards (
Nneka Obiazor,
Amarachi Kimpson and
Meadow Roland) and two Mountain West Freshman of the Year honorees (Kimpson and Roland). Kimpson and Roland became the first two players in UNLV and conference history to be selected as both the Freshman and Sixth Player of the Year.
Kiara Jackson led the nation in back-to-back years in assist/turnover ratio.
Off the court, the Lady Rebels set a program-record cumulative grade point average of 3.41 in Fall 2024. In addition,
Aaliyah Alexander earned College Sports Communications (CSC) Academic All-District honors becoming the first Lady Rebel to do so since the 2018-19 season.
La Rocque has a career record of 128-30 as a head coach and her .810 winning percentage ranks fourth among all active DI women's basketball head coaches with a minimum of five seasons leading a program. Her win percentage leads all MW women's basketball head coaches and is second in UNLV program history.
