RENO (UNLVRebels.com) – Two first half goals helped the UNLV women's soccer team paint Nevada red with a 2-1 win over in-state rival UNR in their season finale Thursday night at Mackay Stadium.
With their victory over the Wolf Pack (2-14-2, 1-8-1 MW), the Rebels (4-10-5, 2-4-4) earned three points in the Silver State Series presented by America First Credit Union for the third time in four years and second straight road victory in the matchup.
After a UNR own goal in the 17th minute, senior
Michelle Madrid gave UNLV its second goal off a rebound when her senior counterpart
Sarah Martinez's cross into the box ricocheted off the Wolf Pack goalkeeper. The score gave Madrid team-high numbers with four goals and 10 points on the season, each of which mark career highs.
Additionally, senior goalkeeper
Hanne Breur and the Scarlet & Gray backline provided tight security over the final 65 minutes of the match while holding UNR out of the net in the second half.
