LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) -- UNLV men's tennis won three of four matches during the first day of the annual Larry Easley Memorial Classic, which started Sunday at the Fertitta Tennis Complex on campus.
Â
In singles play,
Joel Gibson downed NAU's Vincent Vohl, 6-1, 6-2, while
Roberto Hernandez outlasted Kai Mills of NAU, 6-1, 1-6, 6-2.
Â
In doubles,
Vitaliy Horovoy teamed with Gibson on a 6-3 win over the Lumberjacks duo of Ivan Perisic and Daniels Tens.
Â
The annual event was renamed in 2010 in honor of UNLV Hall of Famer Larry Easley, who passed away from illness in 2005 at the age of 57. Easley coached the UNLV men's tennis team longer than anyone in history and produced sometimes-spectacular results over his dozen seasons from 1993-2002, including producing five All-Americans and two NCAA individual champions.
