Snitari Named Raising Cane's Outstanding Rebel Of The Week

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV men's tennis sophomore Ilia Snitari has been named the Raising Cane's Outstanding Rebel of the Week, the school announced Wednesday.

Snitari has earned the recognition for the second time this season, while it's also the men's tennis team's second of the year.

The award goes to the student-athlete who turned in the best individual performance during the previous week of competition from Monday through Sunday as voted on by the UNLV Athletics Strategic Communications department.

A native of Kishinev, Moldova, Snitari became the first UNLV men's tennis player since 2002 to earn All-American status by winning his first two rounds at the NCAA Singles Championship in Orlando.

Snitari improved his record to 12-0 this fall and 20-0 at UNLV by downing the 124th-ranked player in the first round and then ousting a 9-16 seeded opponent in the Round of 32. He lost a close match in the Round of 16 to end his run at the national event.

He moved up 48 spots to No. 35 in the nation in the newest ITA Collegiate Men's Tennis Rankings.
