Lady Rebels Earn 69-65 Victory At Colorado State

With the victory tonight, UNLV has clinched a share of the regular season title

FORT COLLINS, Colo. (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV Lady Rebels have won their sixth straight game after defeating Colorado State 69-65 on Saturday afternoon at Moby Arena. The Scarlet & Gray (22-5, 14-1 MW) completed the two-game regular season sweep over the Rams (20-8, 11-4 MW).
 
The Lady Rebels again had four players in double-digits and were led by McKinna Brackens' who had 18 points. Brackens shot 5-for-10 from the field, 2-for-4 from the three and 6-for-8 from the free throw line. Aaliyah Alexander was second on the squad with 14 points, while Alyssa Brown picked up her fourth double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Brown did not miss a shot against the Rams, going 4-for-4 from the field and the three-point line. Amarachi Kimpson collected 10 points for the Lady Rebels and was second on the squad in rebounds with seven.
  
The Rams had three players in double-figures and were led by Hannah Simental's 19 points. Emma Ronsiek had 16 points on the day, while Marta Leimane had 15 points, respectively. Kloe Forebe led Colorado State in rebounds with six.
 
TURNING POINT: The Lady Rebels took a 13-point lead on a 13-point scoring run in the second quarter to go up 31-18. Going into the break, the Scarlet & Gray had a double-digit lead at 36-23. In the fourth quarter, the Rams went on a 9-3 scoring run to cut the Lady Rebels' deficit to seven, 57-50. Right after the scoring run from Colorado State, the Lady Rebels got the lead back up to 10 at 60-50. Both squads went back-and-forth until the Rams were within two, 67-65. The Lady Rebels then went back up by four and as Colorado State tried to hit a three-pointer with three seconds left to play, but Alexander grabbed the defensive rebound and held the ball for the win.
 
OTHER NOTES:
  • The Lady Rebels out-rebounded the Rams 40-26.
  • UNLV dished 12 assists compared to CSU's nine assists.
  • The Lady Rebels out-shot the Rams 43.4% (23 of 53) to 39.3% (22 of 56).
  • The Scarlet & Gray had their best three-point shooting game, shooting  57.1% (8 of 14) from the three.
  • UNLV has now won the last nine meetings against CSU and are 9-1 against the Rams under head coach Lindy La Rocque.
