LAS VEGAS (UNLVrebels.com) – Coming into Tuesday's contest with a three-game win streak, the UNLV baseball team (11-5) faced off against UC Riverside (10-7) at Earl E. Wilson Stadium. The Rebels' bats continued to run hot with another double-digit scoreline, taking down the Highlanders on a final score of 10-4.
The Scarlet & Gray totaled 14 hits in the contest,
Elijah Rodriguez leading the charge with three hits in five at bats. The senior outfielder also picked up a pair of RBIs and a pair of runs as well. A trio of Rebels tallied two hits each during the contest;
JP Hefft,
Gunnar Myro and
Paul Myro IV all hitting that mark.
Three other Rebels outside of Rodriguez found RBIs in the contest;
JP Hefft,
Dean Toigo and
Paul Myro IV each notching two. The Myro brothers and Rodriguez found two runs during their baserunning, PM4 holding the statline of two hits, two runs, two RBIs and two walks in two at bats.
Chase Gallegos also picked up a pair of walks for the Rebels.
UNLV held a bullpen day on the mound, seven different arms getting a chance in the game.
Sam Simon was the starter for the program and the eventual winner, pitching the first two innings of action and collecting three strikeouts.
Caden Byers appeared in the third,
Cody Albright being the only other Rebel to throw multiple innings with two to his name. The next two innings were controlled by
Ross Fowler and
Michael Taylor, Taylor shutting out UCR with no hits, walks and two strikeouts.
Dylan Rogers would take over in the eighth inning,
Will Marquart closing the ninth with a strong inning.
"Our pitchers and hitters did enough for us to win, but defensively that's not a recipe for success. We definitely have to be better" mentioned head coach
Stan Stolte, "We won't get away with that in conference play and especially on the road in Albuquerque [N.M.] in much tougher conditions than we dealt with today."
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Tuesday marked the first time this season the entire Rebel starting lineup each earned at least one hit in the contest.
- The win over UCR marked their third-straight game of double-digit runs, the sixth time this season.

JP Hefft and
Cole Koniarsky each picked up at least one hit for the Rebels in the match, extending their streaks to 10 games.
- Taylor's fifth inning of work this season was one of his stronger performances yet this season, lowering his season ERA to 1.80.

The UNLV baseball team will take on New Mexico for the start of the Mountain West schedule, traveling out to Albuquerque, N.M. for a three-game set against the Lobos.
