LAS VEGAS (UNLVrebels.com) – The UNLV baseball team (8-4) aimed to cap the weekend with a win over Milwaukee (1-9) on Sunday afternoon, playing the final match of their four-game set. The Hustlin' Rebels picked up their first run-rule win of the season, taking down the Panthers in seven innings on a 14-4 final score.
The Rebels compiled 12 hits in total during the windy contest,
JP Hefft picking up the most hits of any batter with three in five at bats. Three other UNLV batters picked up multiple hits in the game, including
Cooper Sheff,
Dean Toigo and
Cole Koniarsky.
Sheff put together a team-high four RBI count in the contest, blasting a home run straight through center field in the top of the third for three of those previously mentioned scores. He wouldn't be the only Rebel to homer in the game,
Dean Toigo picking up his second-consecutive game with a home run in the second inning.
Elijah Rodriguez tallied a season-high three RBIs in the game, the final one being in the bottom of the sixth where his single moved a bases loaded situation up 90 feet.
Reese Lueck would claim his first career win during the outing, pitching five innings of work and only allowing two hits during the stretch. He'd face 22 batters in total, striking out three of them along the way. The Rebels pitched two relivers in the final two innings to close out the contest,
Dylan Rogers and
Ross Fowler each taking charge of one inning.
"We're happy with the way we finished the weekend, Lueck pitching well despite the difficult conditions" mentioned head coach
Stan Stolte. "We had much better at bats today, and we played much better team baseball than we had on Saturday."
