Runnin' Rebels Drop Rivalry Game In Reno, 89-76

Dra Gibbs-Lawhorn scored 26 points Friday night against UNR.

RENO, Nev. (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's basketball team lost 89-76 at UNR on Friday night. The game was part of the Silver State Series, presented by America First Credit Union.

The Runnin' Rebels (10-11, 5-5) were led by Dra Gibbs-Lawhorn's 26 points, while Naas Cunningham scored 13, and Issac Williamson added 10.

Corey Camper Jr. scored a game-high 32 points to lead the Wolf Pack (16-6, 8-3), and Elijah Price had a double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds.

GAME OF RUNS: UNR got out to a 9-0 lead four minutes into the game. After some back and forth, the Wolf Pack extended their lead to 13 on two occasions, but UNLV closed the half with a 10-2 run and trailed 33-28 at the break. UNR started the second half with a 17-3 spurt to take a 19-point lead at 50-31. The closest the Runnin' Rebels would get the rest of the way was 13.

STAT OF THE GAME: UNR shot 20 more free throws than UNLV did, outscoring the Runnin' Rebels 23-9 at the free-throw line.

QUOTABLE: "The end of the first half we missed a lot of layups, where we could have taken the lead, and then the start of the second half was the difference. We left a lot of points on the board at the end of the first half and then the start of the second half we had some turnovers where we didn't gets shots up. Just unforced errors and they went down the other way and obviously took advantage of it. We also didn't get enough paint presence from our five-men and we needed more rim protection. Not having Tyrin (Jones) in there made a big difference." - UNLV head coach Josh Pastner

OTHER NOTES: 
- Tyrin Jones missed the game after injuring his shoulder early in UNLV's previous game.
- It was the third straight loss for UNLV.
- UNR shot 48% (12 of 25) in the first half and 68% (17 of 25) in the second half to finish the game at 58.0% (29 of 50). The Wolf Pack made 57.1% of their 3-pointers (8 of 14).
- UNLV shot 31% (9 of 29) in the first half and 59.4% (19 of 32) in the second half, finishing the game at 45.9% (28 of 61). The Runnin' Rebels made 58.3% of their 3-pointers in the second half (7 of 12) and finished the game at 42.3% from behind the arc (11 of 26). The 26 3-point attempts was a season high.
- Gibbs-Lawhorn was 10 of 17 from the field, including 4 of 9 on 3-pointers, Cunningham was 5 of 11 from the field, including 2 of 4 on 3-pointers, and Williamson was 4 of 9 shooting, including 2 of 3 on 3-pointers. Kimani Hamilton had nine points, six rebounds and four assists.
- Camper Jr. was 11 of 15 shooting, including 5 of 7 on 3-pointers, made 5 of 6 free throws, and had four rebounds and three steals. Price was 4 of 8 from the field and 14 of 15 on free throws.
- UNR had 20 assists on 29 made field gaols.
- UNR led in points from turnovers 19-10, and points in the paint 36-24, while UNLV led in bench scoring 26-14.
- UNLV has made a 3-pointer in 1,281 straight games - every one since the NCAA adopted the rule in 1986.

NEXT FOR THE RUNNIN' REBELS: UNLV will play its second straight game on the road on Tuesday, Feb. 3, at Fresno State. The 8 p.m. contest will be televised nationally on FS1.
