Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Rebels Top Trailblazers 2-0 For Third Straight Win

ST. GEORGE, Utah (UNLVRebels.com) — Playing its second consecutive match in the Mountain time zone, the UNLV men's soccer team (7-3-2, 3-1 MW) topped Utah Tech (1-9-3, 0-3-1 MW) in shutout fashion, 2-0, for its third straight victory Saturday at Greater Zion Stadium.

The Rebels received the game-winning goal from senior defender Manolo Vazquez in the 14th minute after sophomore forward Maxim Scordo touched the ball to him off senior midfielder Kai Merrill's corner kick. Adding the game's final score, Scordo completed a three-point outing with his made penalty kick and eighth goal of the season to put the Scarlet & Gray up two scores for good.

Junior midfielder Joaquin Eisenberg beat his defender with a dribble into the box just far enough to garner the penalty call as he was tripped before Scordo found the net. This led to the Scarlet & Gray's subsequent third penalty-kick attempt and conversion of the year.

STAT OF THE GAME: Facing a windy environment with the anticipated storm rolling in, the Rebels held their ground defensively, holding the Trailblazers to just one shot on goal in the full 90 minutes. Captained by Vazquez and anchored by senior goalkeeper Hugo Lemos, who made the save on that Utah Tech target on frame, the Scarlet & Gray backline grabbed its third clean sheet of the 2026 campaign.

QUOTABLE: "'It was a gritty performance today which is part of our DNA. We did a great job managing a windy game on turf and there were long periods early where we controlled the game very well with the ball, and then we had to battle in the second half to earn a clean sheet. I'm really proud of the team effort as we start a string of games now with less recovery time, and we need players to come off the bench and do what they did today to keep moving us forward."
- UNLV Head Coach BJ Craig

UP NEXT: UNLV will take the field at home for the first time in two weeks vs. new conference mate UC Davis on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Peter Johann Memorial Field. The match will serve as the squad's Kick Cancer Night, with free pink shirts being given away while supplies last in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness.
