Rebels Open Regional Action In Utah

PROVO, Utah (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV saw one player advance through prequalifying singles during Tuesday's opening of the 2026 ITA Mountain Region Women's Tennis Championship on the campuses of BYU and Utah.

Representatives from 20 schools are on hand for the event, which runs through Saturday. Inclement weather has pushed all early action indoors and to alternate sites. Main draw singles and doubles is scheduled to kick off Wednesday.

Sofiia Sokolvak first downed Monika Fizova of Montana, 6-3, 6-4, and then used a super tiebreaker to down Terezie Stverakova of Montana State, 7-6, 2-6, 1-0 (10-6) to move into Wednesday's main draw. Teammate Kaho Oyama defeated Sofia Mayor of Denver, 7-6 (7), 6-2, in the early round before falling in the evening.

Sokolvak will be joined by three teammates in the main draw while a trio of UNLV doubles teams will get started tomorrow.
