EL PASO, Texas (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV volleyball team suffered a 3-0 road loss to UTEP on Saturday afternoon at Memorial Gym, falling 25-17, 25-21, 25-23 as the Rebels wrapped up their two-match trip to El Paso.
HOW IT HAPPENED: The Rebels (5-10, 1-3 MW) struggled to find their offensive rhythm throughout the match, finishing with 33 kills and a .120 hitting percentage. The Miners (11-5, 3-1 MW) recorded 44 kills while hitting .248. Jaida Harris led UNLV with nine kills and added seven digs and five block assists. Basia Latos contributed eight kills, while Rheanna Deen-Jackson finished with five kills. Jada Ingram added two kills and contributed four block assists and a solo block as the Rebels totaled 14 total blocks.
The Scarlet & Gray found their strongest offensive rhythm late in the match, hitting .258 in the third set with 12 kills and four errors. However, UTEP continued to produce offensively, recording 15 kills in the set to close out the sweep, 25-23. UNLV setter Kamryn Scroggins directed the offense with 24 assists and added nine digs. Caleigh King led the Rebels defensively with 14 digs, while Latos finished with five.
The Miners held advantages in kills (44-33), hitting percentage (.248, .120), assists (41-30) and service aces (5-0). UNLV finished with more digs, 47-41, while UTEP edged the Rebels in total blocks, 18-14.
UTEP was led by Luvina Oguntimehin, who delivered a match-high 12 kills while hitting .450. Hannah Crowe added seven kills while hitting .455 and contributed five block assists. Kalia Kohler paced the Miners' offense with 23 assists and also recorded a match-high 18 digs.
UP NEXT: UNLV faces Grand Canyon in a home-and-home series with the Lopes coming to town on October 8 at 6 pm, followed by a trip to Phoenix on Saturday, Oct. 10 at 4 pm.
