Yergensen Nets Hat Trick, But Rebel Comeback Falls Short Vs. Air Force

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – In spite of a second-half hat trick by freshman forward Kamri Yergensen, UNLV women's soccer (3-6-3, 1-2-1 MW) saw its comeback fall short in a 5-3 loss to Air Force (7-4-1, 2-2-0 MW) on Wednesday night at Peter Johann Memorial Field.

Within a span of 6 minutes, 51 seconds, Yergensen struck the net with goals in the 59th minute, 63rd minute and 66th minute to help the Rebels erase a 4-0 first-half Falcon lead. Air Force, however, used a quick response to Yergensen's first score with a 59th-minute insurance goal for a four-goal cushion that proved enough to withstand the Scarlet & Gray rookie's surge.

The spirited second-half attack included 13 total shots by the Rebels on the way to season highs of 22 total shots and 12 shots on goal. Tough defending by the Falcons, meanwhile, led to them making saves on nine of those to overcome UNLV's advantage in the shots (21-12) and shots-on-goal (12-9) battles.

STAT OF THE GAME: Yergensen became just the second freshman in program history to score three goals in a match. Additionally, she is the first UNLV women's soccer player since the 2021 season to do so. It also marked the Rebel program's eighth hat trick overall.

UP NEXT: UNLV returns to action with a Senior Day match vs. Wyoming at noon on Sunday, Oct. 11, at Peter Johann Memorial Field.

NOTES:
  • Yergensen's trio of scores catapulted her into a tie for UNLV's team lead in goals with fifth-year forward Kaitlin Taylor and into second on the team in points with 12 this season.
  • Taylor maintains her lead in the Rebels' points department with 13 after assisting on the Scarlet & Gray's final goal of the evening.
  • Adding more UNLV assists on the night, junior captain Macee McKenna, sophomore midfielder Ana De Los Santos and sophomore midfielder Tori Martinez each contributed helpers in the match.
  • Three goals matched the Scarlet & Gray attack's season high, tying its same scoring output vs. Pacific and at Idaho State.
  • This was the first loss UNLV has suffered when scoring multiple goals as its record moves to 2-1-2 in such matches on the year.
