LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV softball team was unable to complete the comeback and fell 10-8 against UC Davis in the Desert Classic finale on Sunday afternoon at Eller Media Stadium.

Keyannah Chavez and
Rachel Cook led the Rebels' (3-7) offense against the Aggies (6-4). Chavez went 3-for-4 with two doubles, four RBI and scored a run. Her three hits and four RBI tie her career-high in both. Cook reached base on all four at-bats, going 2-for-2 including two walks and a triple. Cook additionally had an RBI and crossed the plate three times for UNLV.

HOW IT WENT DOWN: The Aggies went ahead in the top of the first inning 1-0. The second inning was scoreless by both teams, until UC Davis tallied four more runs on five hits to make it 5-0. In the bottom of the third, UNLV had runners in scoring position and
Keyannah Chavez smacked a double to right field getting the Rebels on the board, 5-2. Both squads were held off the board in the fourth inning, the Aggies scored three runs on three hits while taking advantage of a Rebels' error, 8-2. However, with one out in the bottom of the fifth,
Taryn Calderon hit a double to left center and was able to get to third on a UC Davis throwing error.
Rachel Cook then drew a walk to give UNLV runners on the corners.
Charelle Aki then singled to left center scoring Calderon, 8-3. Chavez stayed hot at the plate and roped her second double of the game, bringing in two runs to cut the deficit to three, 8-5.
Presley Barnes stepped into the box and with a 1-1 count, traded places with Chavez on a double of her own to left center and made it 8-6. In the top of the sixth, UCD scored a run on a wild pitch, 9-6.
Lyla Gonzalez led off the bottom half of the sixth with a single up the middle. With one out, Cook tripled, scoring Gonzalez to get UNLV within two, 9-7. Aki hit a sacrifice fly to left, scoring Cook to make it 9-8. In the top half of the seventh, UC Davis hit a solo home run to go back ahead by two, 10-8. With one out and a runner on first in the bottom of the seventh,
Diamond Sefe singled to right center. The Rebels were then retired in the final two outs.

OTHER NOTES:
- Lyla Gonzalez and Taryn Calderon each had two hits against UC Davis.
- Calderon and Cook each had a stolen base on the day.
- Gonzalez crossed the plate twice for the Rebels.
- The Rebels had 13 hits which included four doubles and a triple.
- Lauren Fettic had three strikeouts against the Aggies.
- Chavez is currently on a three-game hitting streak and has reached base in six straight games.
- Aki, Cook, Sefe and Bri Williams have all reached base in four straight games.
- For the weekend, Calderon batted a .556 (5-for-9) with a double, home run and two RBI. She also scored four runs through the Desert Classic.
- Through the Desert Classic, Mantha Hatzenbeller batted .500 (3-for-6) which included her first career home run.
UP NEXT: The Rebels remain in Las Vegas to host the Rebel Classic on Thursday, Feb. 19 - Sunday, Feb. 22. UNLV welcomes Idaho State, Merrimack, Utah Valley and Valpo for the weekend.
