Softball Evens Series With San Jose State After 3-2 Victory

UNLV out-hit San Jose State 8-6; Lauren Fettic collected her sixth win of the season

SAN JOSE, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV softball team evened the series with San Jose State after collecting a 3-2 Mountain West victory on Saturday afternoon at Spartan Softball Complex.
 
Diamond Sefe and Bri Williams continue to stay hot at the plate, both leading the Rebels' (13-14, 1-1) offense against the Spartans (9-16, 1-1). Sefe reached base on all three at-bats going 2-for-2 including a walk and an RBI. Williams was 2-for-4 on the day, which now extends her on-base streak to 15 straight games. Lauren Fettic collected the win in relief for her sixth of the season.
 
HOW IT WENT DOWN: The Spartans took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI double. The second inning was scoreless on both sides, until the Rebels took the lead in the top of the third inning scoring two runs on three hits including an RBI single by Diamond Sefe, 2-1. In the bottom of the fourth, San Jose State tied the game 2-all in the bottom of the fourth on a single to left. In the top half of the sixth, Sefe drew a five-pitch walk to lead things off. Natalie Turner then put a sacrifice bunt down to put the Rebels' runner in scoring position. Mantha Hatzenbeller then hit her first triple of the season to give UNLV a 3-2 lead. In the bottom half of the final inning, the Rebels and Lauren Fettic retired the Spartans in order including two ground balls and a strikeout.
 
OTHER NOTES:
  • Keyannah Chavez hit her 14th double of the season, which she continues to lead the league and Rebels.
  • Fettic pitched 3.2 innings, did not allow a hit and struck out two of the 12 batters faced.
  • Turner was 1-for-2 including an RBI.
  • Sefe has now reached base in five straight games.
