LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – The 72nd-ranked UNLV women's tennis team fell flat in doubles to start the morning but roared back in singles play to ease by sixth-seeded Utah State, 4-1, in the quarterfinals of the Credit Union 1 Women's Tennis Mountain West Championship on Thursday at the Darling Tennis Center.
 
The Rebels won their fifth straight outing to improve to 18-3 overall while the Aggies ended their season at 12-11. This marks the 10th consecutive tournament that UNLV reached at least the semifinal round.
 
Utah State dominated doubles, winning both completed matches by the score of 6-2 to grab a 1-0 lead. In singles, however, the Rebels won the first set on all six courts to take control.
 
Nikol Mircheva notched her 20th win of the season when her opponent, Sabina Pintea, retired with an injury to close her match first at No. 2; Sofiia Sokolvak blanked Kylee Sperry, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 6; Veronika Kliuch, fresh from being named MW Player of the Year, downed Terezia Mlkva, 6-4, 6-3, at the top of the lineup; and Kaho Oyama put an end to things with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Magdal Nunez Pureco on court five.       
 
UP NEXT: UNLV will face rival Boise State in one of Friday's semifinals, starting with doubles play at 11 a.m. The 67th-ranked and second-seeded Broncos won last year's tourney by upsetting the Rebels in the final. UNLV won this year's regular-season matchup in Idaho, 4-3, on March 29.
