MESA, Ariz. (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV baseball redshirt senior outfielder Nin Burns II was tabbed to the All-Mountain West First Team, the league announced on Thursday.
Burns II, a transfer from Northwest Nazarene, paced the Hustlin' Rebels in 23 conference games as he led the league in batting average (.443), OPS (1.326) and slugging percentage (.810). The Covina, California native sat second in the MW in both runs (31) and on-base percentage (.515), tied for second in sacrifice flies (3) and ranked in the top-10 in home runs (6), doubles (9) and RBI (27).
In conference action, the redshirt senior also led the team in hits (35), stolen bases (5-for-5) and tied for first in triples (1). The primary right fielder drew 10 walks against MW opponents, which is fifth on the team. Burns II also earned the league's final Player of the Week honor on May 18 as he helped the Scarlet & Gray win two out of three games against regular season champions San Diego State to earn the No. 6 seed at the MW Championship. He batted .583 (7-for-12) with two home runs, one double, four RBI, 14 total bases, scored four runs, recorded a 1.167 slugging percentage and a .583 on-base percentage. This is the third straight season a Rebel outfielder has earned all-conference recognition and the 10th time in 11 seasons overall.
QUOTABLE: "Nin had such a positive impact on our team in all areas. I was glad to see him rewarded. He is a pleasure to coach and is a very mature and accountable student-athlete. Very deserving of this honor."
