Five Rebels Earn CSC Academic All-District Accolades

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - Five UNLV baseball players have been named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District team, the organization announced on Tuesday.

Nin Burns II, Reggie Bussey, Carson Lane, Gunnar Myro and Felix Ong were recognized for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. Burns II and Myro are finalists who are part of the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. Academic All-District honorees advance to the Academic All-America ballot, which first-, second and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced June 23. 

The 2026 Academic All-District® Baseball Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the diamond and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.

Burns II, a redshirt senior who earned his Graduate Certificate in Sports Leadership, paced the Hustlin' Rebels in 23 conference games as he led the league in batting average (.443), OPS (1.326) and slugging percentage (.810). The Covina, California native sat second in the MW in both runs (31) and on-base percentage (.515), tied for second in sacrifice flies (3) and ranked in the top-10 in home runs (6), doubles (9) and RBI (27). In conference action, the redshirt senior also led the team in hits (35), stolen bases (5-for-5) and tied for first in triples (1). The primary right fielder drew 10 walks against MW opponents, which is fifth on the team. Burns II also earned the league's final Player of the Week honor on May 18 as he helped the Scarlet & Gray win two out of three games against regular season champions San Diego State to earn the No. 6 seed at the MW Championship. Burns II closed out his graduate campaign with a cumulative GPA of 3.54 and is on the UNLV Dean's List.

Bussey, a senior communications major, appeared in a career-high 38 games with 37 starts. He batted .275 with 38 hits and eight doubles. The Twinsburg, Ohio native had two triples, one home run, 16 RBI and a team-high six sacrifice bunts. Bussey posted the second-most stolen bases on the team with six and recorded eight multi-hits games. In the field, Bussey made just one error in center field this season (.986). Bussey closed out his senior season with a 3.82 GPA and is on the UNLV's Dean's List.

Lane, a junior kinesiology major, earned his second consecutive All-District honor after appearing in 14 games with 13 of them being starts. He threw 62.1 innings of work with 70 strikeouts, 86 hits allowed, 62 runs (57 earned) and 38 walks. The Huntington Beach, California native went 3-4 overall and held opponents to a .330 batting average. Lane struck out eight batters in three games, six or more batters in five games and four or more batters in 11 games. Lane closed out his junior season with a 3.59 cumulative GPA and is on the UNLV's Dean's List.

Myro, a junior urban studies major, appeared in a career-high 44 games with 43 starts. He batted a career-high .353 with 54 hits, 10 doubles and 29 RBI. The Las Vegas native had three home runs, including the walk-off two-run home run that sent the Scarlet & Gray to the MW Baseball Championship. Myro walked eight times, stole one base, recorded a pair of sacrifice bunts, recorded a slugging percentage of .490 and an on-base percentage of .401. The junior recorded a career-high 153 at-bats, scored 32 runs and ended the season with a team-best 17-game hitting streak, the longest of any batter on UNLV this season. Myro closed out his junior campaign with a 3.98 GPA and is on the UNLV's Dean's List.

Ong, a sophomore economics major, made 14 appearances on the mound with eight starts, as he carried a 9.80 GPA with an opponent batting average of .297. The Key West, Florida native went 1-3 overall, struck out 35 batters, gave 41 runs with 38 of them being earned and pitched 37.2 innings of work. He punched out a career-high seven batters in his second start of the season against Bradley (Feb. 22). Ong ended his sophomore season with a 3.90 GPA and is on the UNLV's Dean's List. 

To be eligible for the CSC Academic All-District Team, players must carry a 3.50 cumulative GPA and be at least a sophomore in both academic and athletic standing. Graduate students need to have at least a 3.50 cumulative GPA in both their undergraduate and graduate studies to be eligible, with grades from all institutions counting for transfer students. Student-athletes must also play in 90 percent of the team's games or start in at least 66 percent of contests. Pitchers need to have made at least 17 appearances or pitched for at least 35.0 innings to qualify.
