Rebels Finish Four-Match Road Trip With 1-1 Draw At UC Riverside

RIVERSIDE, Calif (UNLVRebels.com) — Behind a strong first half, the UNLV men's soccer team (2-2-1) finished its four-match road trip with a 1-1 draw at UC Riverside (2-1-2) on Sunday night at UCR Soccer Stadium.

The Rebel attack wasted no time in breaking through the Highlander backline, getting a ninth-minute goal off the foot of senior forward Nick Legendre on a ball fed to him by junior midfielder Sawyer Crisostomo. On the defensive end of the field, the Scarlet & Gray backline kept UCR out of the net up until the home team tallied the 81st-minute equalizer.

STAT OF THE GAME: Through the first 45 minutes of the contest, the Scarlet & Gray outshot UC Riverside, 6-4, and finished the match with two shots on goal. Along with Legendre finding the net, junior forward Claudio Lopez Alos added one shot on target of his own. Five different Rebels wound up with at least one shot attempt, including Legendre with two, as well as one apiece from senior midfielder Joaquin Eisenberg, senior midfielder Andres Robles and freshman midfielder Pol Izquierdo.

QUOTABLE: "I'm really proud of this team and how we keep improving especially with so many games on the road at the start. We deserved more with our performance tonight. We were dominant in the first half and got a good goal out of it and had another 2-3 really good shots from Nick and Claudio that really tested their keeper. We have to do better defending those little half chances teams can get when we are running the game, and that will come as our younger players grow with experience. I hope our fans come out on Thursday to cheer this group on. We need their support at home."
- UNLV Head Coach BJ Craig

UP NEXT: UNLV will return home to Peter Johann Memorial Field for a 7:30 p.m. tilt on Thursday vs. UC San Diego.
