Biography

UNLV: A veteran quarterback who looks to earn time as a veteran senior … Started his career at Cal before transferring to junior college and then becoming a midyear signee for UNLV … Earned his bachelor’s degree in economics in May 2020 … A former four-star recruit according to 247Sports and Rivals coming out of high school … Last name is pronounced “GILL-um.”

2019: Member of squad but did not see any action.

2018: Earned his first letter as a Rebel by playing in 11 games … Made his FBS debut off the bench vs. UTEP in Game 2 and completed his first pass attempt as a Rebel … After an injury to starter Armani Rogers he started seven games and went on to lead the team with 1,394 passing yards and 14 touchdowns to go with eight interceptions … His 14 TD passes were the most over any entire season by a UNLV player since Blake Decker’s 15 in 2014 … When he made his first career start against New Mexico, he became the sixth different Rebel to start behind center during the Tony Sanchez era and completed 15 of 35 attempts for 123 yards, one interception and notched his first two touchdown throws … The following week at Utah State, Gilliam completed 18 of 36 attempts for 250 yards and one pick. His day included touchdown passes to three different receivers highlighted by a 79-yard strike to Tyleek Collins … Against Air Force he threw for another trio of scores while completing 26 of 38 attempts for 250 yards ... At SJSU, his 387 yards were the 14th-most in a game by a Rebel and the most since Decker’s 397 vs. Northern Illinois in 2014 ... Completing a career-high 28 on 50 attempts vs. the Spartans, he also tossed four more TDs and finished with a career-best 56 yards rushing, including his first TD on the ground as a Rebel … The dozen touchdown passes were the most by a Rebel signal-caller in four games since Jon Denton had the same amount in 1996 … Gilliam completed only 14 of 30 for just 98 yards against No. 20 Fresno State but one week later earned his first win as a starter, completing 16 of 24 for 237 yards and another TD in a victory at San Diego State … One of a school-record 28 Academic All-Mountain West honorees.

JUNIOR COLLEGE: Played in 10 games in 2017 at Saddleback College in CA … Led the Gauchos to a 7-3 record under coach Mark McElroy … Completed 101 of 148 passes for 1,185 yards 10 touchdowns, seven interceptions and a long of 46.

CAL: Redshirted the 2016 season after signing with the Pac-12 school out of high school.

HIGH SCHOOL: A 2016 graduate and two-year letterwinner at Thousand Oaks HS under head coach Mike Leibin … Compiled 7,624 total yards of offense and was responsible for 91 touchdowns during two campaigns as the varsity starter as a junior in 2014 and senior in 2015 … Threw for 6,333 yards and 69 touchdowns on 428-of-599 passing (71.5%) while adding 1,291 yards rushing and 22 scores … Over 25 games, led the Lancers to an 18-7 overall record while reaching the Southern Section North Division playoffs both seasons, which included a runner-up showing as a senior … A first team All-State Medium Schools selection by Cal-Hi Sports and All-Southern Section Northern Division pick as a senior in addition to sharing the All-Ventura County MVP honor and being named first team All-Los Angeles Daily News, All-Ventura County Northern Division and an All-Camino League selection.
