Bojay Filimoeatu

Bojay Filimoeatu joined the Rebels’ as defensive line coach in March 2022.

Filimoeatu (“BO-jay FEE-lee-moe-EE-ah-tu”) came to Las Vegas after coaching the previous year in the same position at Weber State. He was a member of the WSU staff that led the Wildcats to a fourth straight Big Sky title in the spring 2021 season and a trip to the FCS Playoffs while producing All-Big Sky honorees Jared Schiess and Sione Lapuaho from his position group.

"I am excited to announce the addition of Coach Bojay Filimoeatu to our defensive staff and specifically to our defensive line,” said Head Coach Marcus Arroyo. “He was a 2017 Broyles Award Nominee and is an outstanding recruiter. Even more importantly, his players, particularly in this conference, developed and produced. As a former NFL player he understands what it takes for players to reach the next level and will bring unmatched enthusiasm and intensity to our D-Line room. He’s a great coach and we’re happy to have him!"

During the spring 2021 season, Weber State finished 5-1 to earn its first outright title in school history with a perfect 5-0 Big Sky record. The Wildcats were ranked as high as second in the nation during the season.

Previous to Weber State, Filimoeatu spent two seasons at Mountain West member Utah State where he coached the Aggie defensive ends in 2019 and guided four players to All-Mountain West honors. In 2020, he coached the outside linebackers.

Prior to Utah State, he spent two seasons coaching the linebackers at another MW member, San José State. He began his coaching career at Oregon State in 2016 where he worked as a quality control defensive coach.

At San José State, Filimoeatu coached linebacker Ethan Aguayo to honorable mention All-Mountain West in 2018 as the junior led the Spartans in total tackles with 106 and ranked 29th nationally with an average of 9.6 tackles per game. During the 2017 season, Filimoeatu coached linebacker Frank Ginda, who became just the second Spartan linebacker to earn first team All-Mountain West honors. As a junior, Ginda established a single-season conference record and the eighth-best total by an FBS player with 173 tackles.

As a player, Filimoeatu was a two-year starting linebacker at Utah State in 2011 and 2012 where he helped lead the Aggies to a pair of bowl games and the 2012 Western Athletic Conference title.

He graduated from Utah State in 2012 with an interdisciplinary studies degree with an emphasis in sociology and physical education. He spent the 2014 season in the NFL with the Oakland Raiders where he appeared in eight games.

Prior to Utah State, he played two seasons at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut, California.

Filimoeatu attended Granger High School in West Valley City, Utah, where he earned all-region honors as a linebacker and fullback.
