A veteran of the Mountain West, Scott Baumgartner came to UNLV in 2020 to coach running backs after spending the previous seven seasons at New Mexico.

On March 3, 2021, head coach Marcus Arroyo announced that Baumgartner had added the duties of special teams coordinator.

Baumgartner coached the Lobos’ wide receivers for five seasons and their running backs in 2016 and ’17.

Prior to UNM, Baumgartner coached for nine years at UNR, seven as the Wolf Pack’s wide receiver coach. Before arriving in Reno, Baumgartner, who has more than three decades of college coaching experience, spent eight years coaching receivers, quarterbacks and special teams at Central Missouri State. He also spent four seasons as an assistant coach at West Valley College in Saratoga, California, and started his collegiate coaching career in 1988 at his alma mater, Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon, where he was an all-conference receiver after transferring from Cerritos College in Norwalk, California.
