Aerick Sanders

Aerick Sanders is in his second year as director of player personnel with the UNLV men's basketball program.

Sanders came to Las Vegas after spending four years with the New Mexico State men’s basketball program.

He joined the Aggies as an assistant coach and his main responsibilities included scouting, game preparation, on-court instruction and recruiting.

Sanders helped direct NMSU to a pair of Western Athletic Conference Championships, a pair of WAC Tournament Championships, two NCAA Tournament appearances and a NIT appearance.

He helped guide the Aggies to their second consecutive WAC Championship in 2015-16, posting a 23-11 overall record and a 13-1 league campaign. They played in the WAC Tournament title game and made their first NIT appearance since 2000.

In 2014-15, he assisted the program to the WAC Championship with a 23-11 overall record and a 13-1 league mark. NMSU added its fourth consecutive WAC Tournament Championship and the accompanying NCAA Tournament berth.

In his first season in 2013-14, he aided the Aggies to their third straight WAC Tournament title and a berth in the NCAA Tournament as they posted a 26-10 record.

Sanders spent the 2012-13 season as an assistant coach at Montana State. Prior to coaching, Sanders owned and operated the Sanders Sports Academy that worked in skill development from 2010-12.

He played professional basketball for six seasons in France, Latvia, Israel, Spain and Turkey from 2004-10.

A standout player at San Diego State, Sanders played under Steve Fisher and Marvin Menzies, who was an assistant coach with the Aztecs from 1999-2003. 

Sanders was an All-Mountain West selection and team captain as a senior for the Aztecs. He averaged 16.1 points and 9.8 rebounds in his final season. 

Additionally, Sanders led SDSU to the NCAA Tournament following a Mountain West Tournament Championship in 2002.

Sanders graduated from San Diego State with a bachelor’s degree in political science in 2005.

He is currently pursuing a master's degree in education. He also has a son, Avery (3).
