Veteran national and international professional coach Tim Nichols was named the assistant for the UNLV women's tennis program by Rebels' head coach Kevin Cory on Oct. 10, 2014.
"We are thrilled to welcome Tim Nichols as our new assistant coach," Cory said. "He brings with him a wealth of experience coaching on the pro tour and will make an immediate impact with our current and future student-athletes. We expect him to be a tremendous asset on the recruiting end as he is well-connected in the tennis world."
Nichols came to Las Vegas from the Hong Kong Tennis Association where he oversaw the junior development program. During the previous four years he coached various international players, including serving as the traveling coach from 2010-12 for Peng Shuai, during which she reached a ranking as high as No. 14 on the WTA Tour.
In between stints as a private coach, Nichols was the Director of Professional Women's Tennis at the International Tennis Academy in Delray Beach, Fla., from 2003-08. He also spent a decade working with the top professionals and juniors in Japan from 1990-2000 after teaching for Harry Hopman's International Tennis Camp in Largo, Fla., from 1983-90.
Nichols earned his bachelor's degree from Marion College in Florence, S.C., in 1984
