Shlaes enters her third year at UNLV after joining the staff prior to the 2016 season.
The former Division I student-athlete was a four-year letterwinner as a member of the North Carolina State women's soccer program from 2010-14, playing for Shaw from 2010-12 when he was the associate head coach for the Wolfpack. A center-midfielder, Shlaes appeared in 67 games, starting 29, and recorded four goals and two assists during her career. She was also a four-year Caterpillar Scholar-Athlete award recipient, given to NC State student-athletes who maintain a 3.0 grade-point-average throughout the entire academic year.
After receiving her Bachelor's degree in communication from NC State in 2014, Shlaes taught third grade at Maureen Joy Charter School in Durham, N.C. through the Teach for America program and coached both the middle school boys' and girls' soccer teams. Under the direction of Shlaes, both programs experienced significant growth, winning three of four conference championships during her two years at the school. Prior to moving to Las Vegas to join Shaw's staff, Shlaes played for Raleigh's Oak City Futbol Club, which finished its inaugural season in the Women's Premier Soccer League (WPSL) in July 2016.
Since coming to UNLV, Shlaes has gotten involved in the Las Vegas soccer scene as a club coach for the Heat FC. She has worked with several teams within the club, serving as the head coach for the Nevada 07 (U11) team while most recently being named the head coach for the Nevada 04 (U14) girl's state team.
Shlaes was born in Davenport, Iowa and played high school soccer at Shaker Heights High School in Ohio, where she was a four-year all-conference selection at center-midfielder.
