Matt Kuelpman

Matt Kuelpman enters his first season as an assistant coach with the UNLV volleyball program in 2026, bringing nine years of collegiate coaching experience and a proven track record of developing championship teams and student-athletes.

Throughout his coaching career, Kuelpman has helped guide programs to three conference championships, two NCAA Tournament appearances, three National Invitational Volleyball Championship (NIVC) appearances and one NCAA Tournament match victory. He has coached and developed 19 First Team All-Conference selections, six professional athletes, five All-Americans and All-America honorable mentions, and three conference players of the year or MVPs.

Kuelpman most recently spent three seasons at the University of New Mexico (2023-25) as the Lobos' offensive coordinator. During his tenure, UNM posted a 45-43 overall record and a 21-33 mark in Mountain West play. In his first season in Albuquerque, the Lobos finished fourth in the Mountain West standings and earned the program's first postseason victory in 17 years, advancing to the conference semifinals.

Prior to New Mexico, Kuelpman spent four seasons at Weber State (2019-22), compiling an 84-33 overall record and a 52-14 mark in Big Sky Conference play. He served as the Wildcats' offensive coordinator from 2019-21 before transitioning to defensive coordinator in 2022. Weber State reached postseason play in all four seasons, making three NIVC appearances and advancing to the Elite Eight twice.

The Wildcats enjoyed historic success during Kuelpman's tenure. In 2020, Weber State posted a 15-1 record, captured both the Big Sky regular-season and tournament championships, and earned the program's first NCAA Tournament berth since 1988. The Wildcats then defeated Bowling Green in the first round to secure the program's first NCAA Tournament victory and advance to the second round. Weber State repeated as Big Sky champions in 2021 and, from 2019-21, posted a 25-match home winning streak that was the longest in the nation.

Kuelpman began his Division I coaching career at Cal Poly in 2018, helping the Mustangs to a 25-3 overall record and a 15-1 mark in Big West Conference play while capturing the Big West championship.
