LAS VEGAS - The UNLV football team will open its 2003 preseason camp when the rookies report on the evening of August 5, with veterans checking in the following day.
The Rebels' first practice will take place in helmets-only on Wednesday, Aug. 6, on the Ernie Becker Sr. Football Fields at Bill "Wildcat" Morris Park located on campus.
New rules instituted by the NCAA in time for this season mean a longer, five-day acclimation period as well as no consecutive sessions of twice-a-day practices. The first day featuring players in full pads will be Sunday, Aug. 10 and the first two-a-day practices will take place the following day.
All practices are open to the public.
The entire squad will scrimmage at Sam Boyd Stadium on Saturday, Aug. 16, as part of Sneak Peek 2003, which is free and open to the public.
Camp continues until Aug. 23 with two-a-days scheduled for each Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Regular practice times then kick in Monday, Aug. 25 leading up to UNLV's season opener with Toledo on Aug. 30 at Sam Boyd Stadium.
Season tickets are on sale now by calling (702) 739-FANS.
