LAS VEGAS - The UNLV men?s soccer team allowed two second half goals and dropped its second straight match, falling to UC Irvine 4-2 at Johann Field.
After falling behind 2-0 in the match?s first 10 minutes, the Rebels battled back. Freshman Tuomas Talvio (Helsinki, Finland) dribbled past two defenders for an easy goal at 24:55.
The Rebels? leading scorer, sophomore Jason Melendez (Lakewood, CA/Mayfair), tied the game, slipping a shot through the hands of Anteater keeper Tyler Reid.
After more than 35 minutes of scoreless play that followed, UCI?s Jesse Peron banged in a rebound for the game winner at 66:45.
At 82:18, the Anteaters? Jason Thompson took advantage of an attacking UNLV squad and slipped through the defense to seal the victory.
The loss drops UNLV to 6-10-0 on the year and 1-4-0 in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation play. UC Irvine lifts its record to 7-10-1, 2-3-0 in the conference.
The Rebels will play their final home match of the year on Sunday when they host San Diego State in a MPSF match at 12 noon at Johann Field.
