April 19, 1998SAN DIEGO - For the second consecutive day, the 42nd-ranked UNLV women's tennis team was swept in doubles play and for the second consecutive day it led to a loss.
Sunday, the Lady Rebels lost to No. 27 San Diego State, 6-3, in a key WAC match-up that concluded UNLV's regular season.
The Lady Rebels, who fell to 8-11 overall and 1-2 in the league, split six singles matches but lost all three doubles points. The Aztecs improved to 12-4 and 4-1.
UNLV was led by at the top spot by sophomore Gee Gee Garvin, who upset No. 77 Maggie Cole, 6-0, 5-7, 7-6. Also winning were Veronica Goude and Marcella Valkenhoff.
Next up for the Lady Rebels is the WAC Championship to be held April 29-May 2 in Houston, Texas.
