LAS VEGAS - Purdue rallied to take the final two matches and edge the UNLV men's tennis team 4-3 at the Fertitta Tennis Complex Tuesday.
The 43rd-ranked Rebels dropped to 5-6 while the 35th-ranked Boilermakers improved to 9-1.
UNLV lost by the same score for the second day in a row after dropping the doubles point to open the match. Purdue won a tie-breaker in the third match to win 9-8 and earn the point.
In singles play, the Rebels got a win at the top spot by 72nd-ranked Asaf Tishler, who downed 66th-ranked Jason Marshall in straight sets 7-5, 7-5, for his ninth straight victory. Also winning for UNLV in straight sets were Damu Bobb at the third position and Gregor Skorin at the fifth spot.
The Rebels took a 3-2 lead but Derek Myers won at the second spot and then 50th-ranked Chris James held on to defeat Danny Erez 6-2, 6-7, 6-4 at the fourth position to clinch the overall match.
UNLV next hosts Arkansas-Little Rock on March 26.
